Overview
The G-Wagen is a military drawing that escaped into civilian life and refused to be redesigned. The 2018 W463 kept the silhouette and quietly replaced everything underneath. The G 63 is the one that makes the joke serious: a brick that hits 100 km/h in four and a half seconds.

Powertrain
M177 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8
Three locking differentials remain. The V8 is theatre on the boulevard and traction in the dirt. On a motorway it is a loud, upright lounge. In a city it is a piece of architecture that happens to indicate.

Design
Indicators like jewellery boxes, a beltline you could set a theodolite to, and a spare wheel that is still a spare wheel. The new one is larger, calmer in the surfaces, and somehow more G-Wagen than the old one. That is a trick.
The last honest SUV silhouette in German luxury. Ignore the chrome packages. The form is the feature.
